Turndown Service with Julie Peak

Turndown Service with Julie Peak

Imagine the clutter of tripping over discarded shoes, haphazardly tossed toys (including the painful single lego piece), and the frantic hunt for things that are never where they’re supposed to be. Well, mother of one, Julie Peak knows all these sensations and more, coming to one conclusion– her space (and sanity) couldn’t continue in disarray. The thing about organizing is that it is more than simply putting an item back where it belongs. Julie soon realized that organizing her space became the one outlet of her life she had complete and utter control over, and there was something empowering in that.

On a mission to help restore other people’s lives, Julie founded The Precise Place to transform the home into more than just a resting place. It can empower its inhabitants through peace and clarity rather than chaos and stress. While walking us through her Turndown Service, Julie revealed the importance of her kitchen, the activities that help her wind down, and some of her favorite hacks for meal prep. Read on to discover more of Julie’s hidden spaces.

What are your favorite (hidden) oases? Favorite places to be - parks, cities, bars, any place you absolutely adore!

My absolute favorite oasis is Isle of Palms, SC. From beautiful beaches, to the rich historical history, and amazing food. There is something for everyone to enjoy.

What oasis is on your bucket list? Travel wishlist!!

I have always wanted to visit, the city of the future, Tokyo.

What book are you currently unwinding with?

The Minimalist Home by Joshua Becker. A must read for anyone wanting freedom from their “stuff”.

What 4-5 songs make up the sound track of your life?

Don't Stop Believin By Journey

Don’t Worry, Be Happy By Bobby McFerrin

Unanswered Prayers By Garth Brooks

The Dock of the Bay By Otis Redding

Where is your favorite hidden space in your home?

Not a hidden space, but the kitchen is my favorite space in our home. It’s the place we gather, discuss our day, and entertain.

What is your personal “turndown routine” that helps you transition from day to night?

I love to unwind with a relaxing bath at the end of the day. Dim the lights, lite a candle and just let the worries of the day melt away.

What is something you do just for you?

Gardening and Pilates

What’s your favorite maxi dress or jumpsuit and why?

Any cotton jumpsuit is a WIN in my book. It’s an effortless look when paired with simple jewelry and a statement pair of shoes. Transition to fall by throwing on a classic denim jacket.

I love that you don’t think of organizing as just for things and saw that you have some great tips for meal planning - could you share some of your tips as I know we all struggle with trying to figure out “what’s for dinner?” on the regular?

Yes, meal planning saves money, time and reduces food waste. Pro tip: Make meal planning fun with themed days or weeks, for instance:

  • Meatless Monday
  • Taco Tuesday
  • Crockpot Wednesday
  • Flashback Thursday- eat or make new meal using leftovers
  • Fish Friday
  • Copycat Saturday - recreate your favorite restaurant meals at home
  • Casserole Sunday

The ideas are endless. Create a list of family favorite sides and add 1-2 per meal.

What is your favorite space to organize? What are some tips for someone looking to tackle it DIY? Any favorite items that you recommend your clients buy?

I really enjoy organizing clothing closets and playrooms. My biggest advice for tackling DIYs is to start small and build your momentum, so you don’t burn yourself out. I always recommend my clients switch to velvet hangers. Velvet hangers are a huge space saver and really elevate your closet aesthetic.
